When I tilt the hats away from me, my sticks don't hit the bottom cymbal (which saves a lot of sticks) and it sounds slightly darker than when I tilt the hats towards me. When their tilted toward me, my stick also hits the bottom cymbal and the sound is a bit brighter ('cuz it's a heavier cymbal).
What is your preference?

Dennis Bryon's drum track. The cymbals sound like 602s to me but I'm no Paiste expert. What do you think these hats are? I may be joining a disco band and I always pursued this sound for that.

There are some AI artifacts. For the skeptical, the little drum oopsy at 3:15 is there. This is also the track they looped, I believe during the bridge, for Stayin' Alive and a bunch of other songs(!)

So which hats?
It's a great bag, GEWA SPS deluxe 24". Had it for two years. All my cymbal bags eventually develop a hole at the bottom, including my old protection racket. I'm not really sure which bag to buy, I need one that will last longer and not wear out at the bottom. I really like the features of the GEWA and am tempted to buy it again. By the way, never needed 24" but that's the size that was for...
