I never thought I would actually find one of these in my lifetime, let alone in the finish I most wanted! These things sound SOOOOOO good. Like, they sound 20% better than any other kit I own…even my 1970 Ludwig I’ve been gushing about for the past 20 years or so!
If you read my posts and threads and responses, you know I like thin shells. And lite weight shells. Partly because of ease of transport, and also the sound. They're my sound. Musical. A bit of ring and nice decay. Easily controlled and manipulated with head choice vs gels or wresting perfectly good drums into submission as nothing more than cardboard boxes with too-much muffling.
Tama SS Classic Maple fit this mode at lower price end. But man ya gotta pay out...
Despite the conditions I found the kit in, the bearing edges are intact, the shells are in round, and they're cleaning up nicely. I'd taken the snare drum home before picking up the rest of it, and cleaned it up- better care was taken of it than the rest of the kit, so it only needed minor rust pits removed and fresh heads & wires. It looks brand new and plays great.
I've fallen into a side hobby lately-...
I decided to remove the original matching lacquered hoops and installed these Gibraltar blond maple hoops. Long ago I dropped my 1984 Tama Superstar cherry wine bass drum and cracked one of the matching hoops so that episode always plays on my head.

So the originals live in a closet nice and safe now. This look is growing on me.
