Thanks in advance, am curious to hear your responses. I play pretty much everything traditional grip with the snare tilted away and to the right, making rimshots easy for both hands. I've periodically worked on my matched grip but...
On myriad occasions over the years I have casually browsed this forum and gleaned a broader understanding of so many aspects of the drum set. From history, technique, gear reviews and instrument maintenance/construction. So with that in mind, I thought I would stop by and draw from the well again.

What advice would you give to a student who was preparing to play jazz in an ensemble for the first time? Anything from repertoire, rehearsing, performing, band room...

How important do you think it is for the surface rebound of a practice pad to mimic those of a drum set? I feel like the real feel is too bouncy for my technique on it to transfer to the drum set. On the other hand, Tommy Igoe uses a real feel and...

Even though I've been playing drums over 30 years now, I'm always learning what I can about tuning drums because there's still a lot of it that I find pretty mysterious and nonsensical. I had a little bit of time this past weekend to mess with my TuneBot. I bought it a few years ago, tried it a couple of times, and I put it away.
